Highlights

– Very weak modern seismicity and evidence on powerful paleo-earthquakes

– Need of regional parametric models of wave radiation and propagation

– High frequency nature of seismic effects at platforms

– Quarry blasts, infrasound and seismic monitoring by small aperture arrays

Abstract. The territory of the Kola Peninsula and Karelia is characterized by a very weak level of modern seismicity, but traces of numerous paleo-earthquakes with an intensity of up to 9–10 are revealed here. Their account can significantly change the current seismic hazard assessment of the territory. This and some other problems associated with seismic hazard assessment for nuclear and radiation hazardous objects in the region are considered.
